This project included remodelling the school and constructing a new 7600m2 building nearby, planned as two blocks responding to the geometry of two adjoining streets. The layout is admirably clear, and transparent classrooms and open washrooms minimise opportunities for bullying.
The brick elevations respond to the scale and materials of the area, with windows having simple, elegant vertical proportions. Further detail is added by incorporating a softly textured lighter coloured brick running in a diamond pattern across the facade. The scheme is a good response to the brief – a large volume nestling well into its locality.
