Student and Practitioner entrants to our annual drawing competition have showcased some exceptional skills, as engagement with artificial intelligence grows
Our Eye Line 2025 longlist is out. With a total of just under 100 entries this year, we had fewer than usual, but the quality of submissions has certainly not not diminished.
Some incredible expertise was on show this year – mostly cutting-edge digital skills from students, although we’re seeing an increase in this are from practitioners too, who historially have been keener to hand-draw, or even work with acrylics and oils. In both categories though, we’ve noted increased engagement with AI, demanding more literary skills (via prompts!) than perhaps might typically be asked of architects.
Below find the longlist of entries that recently went in front of our judging panel: Mary Duggan, director, Mary Duggan Architects, Samantha Hardingham, writer, designer and educator, Koldo Lus Arana, 2024 Practitioner winner and associate professor, University of Zaragoza School of Engineering and Architecture, Bongani Muchemwa, director of McCloy + Muchemwa Architects and Jan-Carlos Kucharek, deputy editor, RIBAJ. We'd like to thank all of our judges for the time, engagement and expertise that they freely offered to the competition.
And as always, we’d like to thank our entrants for their submissions which, in our annual deliberations, bring a summer burst of wonder, debate and joy.
Look out for the winners’ announcements on our social media channels from 27 June, with first place in both categories revealed on 2 July. Remember – all winning entries will be published as part of our Eye Line showcase in the July/August issue of RIBAJ.
