Sustainable paint brand Graphenstone has developed a product range with a whole green life cycle.

Graphenstone paints comply with a ‘Reuse, Reduce and Recycle’ philosophy, guaranteeing the most efficient use of materials and the assurance that its products are independently tested and validated by some of the world’s most recognised, robust and trusted certification programmes: Cradle to Cradle Certified, Global GreenTag Certified and Eurofins.

The firm's GrafClean paint is one of the hardest wearing paints in its range and is certified as Cradle-to-Cradle Bronze, Global Green Tag Level B and Green Tag Health Platinum. With 70 per cent solid content, a Class 1 wet scrub rating and trace VOCs of less than 0.1 per cent, it stands out as one of the best and most sustainable products on the market for coverage and opacity.

By achieving some of the industry's highest certifications, GrafClean automatically meets the requirements of green building standards BREEM, LEED, SKA and WELL and is popular among architects and designers looking for a washable and durable finish for interior walls and ceilings and, in particular, where there are areas of high traffic.

In 2024, Graphenstone was specified for 'best-in-class' design projects including retail fit-outs (GAIL’s), student housing developments (Greystar), commercial offices (Grosvenor Estates, Meta, Stonehage Fleming) as well as luxury residential refurbishments. In each case, Graphenstone paints were selected to align with the clients' commitment to environmentally and ethically responsible design.

The highly breathable nature of Graphenstone's natural mineral and graphene-infused coatings ensures that walls can breathe - paints are Class 1 vapour open, helping to improve air quality, reduce condensation and preventing the growth of bacteria and mould.

With its low odour and ‘harm free’ characteristics, spaces painted with Graphenstone can be occupied just a few hours after application. GrafClean is available in 96 House Colours and 16 colours from The Ashmolean Treasured Collection, with over 1,000 additional colour options, including NCS and RAL.

Now being sold through Brewers Decorator Centres, Graphenstone has expanded its points of sale across the UK to over 300 stores. Brewers will offer all Graphenstone's main paint ranges, along with new 2D 'Peel and Stick' colour samples, which use 30 per cent recycled materials, are 100 per cent recyclable and use around 94 per cent less paint than the average sample pot.

'We firmly believe in "buying less but buying better," says Graphenstone founder and director Patrick Folkes. 'For now, mineral-based paints will likely continue to be at the premium end of pricing due to the higher cost of their raw material ingredients compared with their petrochemical counterparts. But architects and specifiers can make better and more informed choices by demonstrating a firm commitment to a greener and healthier future for all.'
