Dedicated to pattern innovation, endless possibilities makes Leeds Beckett University a stand out flooring

In association with

As part of Amtico's drive to create stunning statement flooring for all settings, the company is now making it even easier with its Designers' Choice collection. Designed by the team at Amtico, Signature is a collection of 84 predefined, ready-to-use product combinations across 14 laying patterns that makes specifying striking floors like those in the Marsden House case study below, easy.

Designers' Choice is beautifully curated selection of products, palettes and patterns that gives designers the choice to realise any creative vision, and celebrates the best of the products in the Amtico flagship Signature Collection. Each design can be ordered using one simple code.

Dedicated to pattern innovation, Designers' Choice begins with design research. Shapes, angles, geometry and scale are experimented with and developed by the 17-strong in-house Amtico design team who in partnership with their expert UK manufacturing team craft the perfect patterns, be they traditional, contemporary, contrasting, complementary or full of juxtapositions. Within the collection there is a suitable laying pattern for every space. Amtico has experimented with product, colour, placement and scale, to bring exquisite balance to every design so designers don't have to.

Case study: Marsden House, Leeds

As well as Designers’ Choice, Amtico also offers endless possibilities and bespoke design project requirements as seen in our Marsden House case study. Leeds Beckett University has specified a wide selection of Amtico flooring in a bespoke design which can be seen in Marsden House halls of residence in the centre of the University's city campus and heart of Leed's cultural centre.

Marsden House is a purpose-built halls of residence comprising 981 en-suite bedrooms within a variety of three to six-bedroom flats. As part of the new building programme, the project, which was designed by Sheffield-based Self Architects, also involved the refurbishment of a former on site health club into student communal areas, incorporating 810m2 of floor area. The renovated communal areas include a new gym and games complex, common room with cinema, as well as individual study spaces. A dedicated residential laundry room was also revamped.

Self Architects developed the concept for the Marsden House project, with the interior design team drawing inspiration from the diversity of Leeds’ industrial heritage and its position as a major cultural centre for the North of England. This was reflected in the new amenity spaces, which made use of specific fabrics, lighting, materials and styling. With the property in use all year round, Marsden House experiences a high level of traffic. As a result, the building required durable and robust flooring that would also enhance the vibrant and striking communal areas.

By specifying Amtico’s Signature collection of luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), each communal area embraced a specific style of statement flooring. This was successfully achieved by blending a range of colours with eye-catching geometric shapes, including a chevron layout in the communal and games areas, along with a chequer board effect in the laundry room.

A standout floor design for the project was the complex herringbone scheme in the table tennis area, where a collection of meticulously structured Cirrus and Napoli floor tiles crept up the walls to create a lively and energetic space.

Commenting on Amtico, Helen Davis, Head Designer at Self Architects, said: 'We used a wide variety of Amtico flooring throughout this refurbishment and I have really enjoyed specifying the products. We used the company’s Luxury Vinyl Tiles for both the floors and wall cladding, with the huge choice of designs and laying patterns helping to create a very slick and interesting zoned environment.

'Amtico was chosen for this project for a number of reasons. Firstly, the quality of the product is exceptional and secondly, there is a great selection of styles and designs on offer. Additionally, the high quality appearance made it a very easy task when specifying the right type of flooring for these differing areas.'
