Bold and contemporary response
Mole Architects for Ian and Jane McClintock

Client of the Year
With a Manser Medal win already under its belt, Mole Architects has proved its understanding of the Norfolk vernacular, and here it’s done it in Suffolk with Stackyard House near Diss. Mole worked closely with the client to create a house that not only met its functional needs, but did so using local materials that elegantly fixed it into its farmyard location.
Mole’s response is bold and contemporary with a timber and concrete primary structure that’s adapted to the sloping site and surrounding views. It’s also built to Passivhaus principles with high levels of airtightness, solar thermal collectors, PVs and rainwater harvesting, making it an exemplary, as well as highly comfortable and efficient modern home.
The high levels of client engagement to arrive at the design combined with strong sustainability performance ensured the building was awarded the region’s Client of the Year and Sustainability awards.
