Skyscraper village
Author: Laura, age 9, Westminster
Activity: Our future city
Laura has designed a new building type, using the traditional layout for a two-storey house but creating a vertical structure to minimise land consumption. The house has an external main core that serves its four different levels. The buildings are inside a protective dome that Buckminster Fuller would have loved, at the top we find a park with a play area. The first floor is actually the town hall of a future city. She has included solar panels outside the domes and on the top of the lift. For me it is a magical mixture of the Trellick Tower and Kengo Kuma's Asakusa tourism centre.
