Choose this product for longer-lasting roofs and cladding

It might not be especially well-known - certainly up against slate - but phyllite is an excellent material and harder, denser and stronger than many alternatives

For outstanding roofing, cladding and flooring, architects should consider phyllite.

Over hundreds of millions of years of heat and pressure, sediment becomes shale. Then shale becomes slate. If the process is allowed to continue even longer, slate becomes phyllite.

Despite its toughness, phyllite nevertheless splits easily during processing and the mica particles on its surface give it an unmistakable phyllitic sheen.

SSQ’s Riverstone phyllite - extracted from its own Argentinian quarry - has been used on prestigious projects from Cornwall to California and achieved excellent results from some of the world’s toughest testing regimes.

Assessed to the US testing standard ASTM C406, the product was awarded an S1 rating, indicating it will last a minimum of 75 years after installation. What’s more, it achieves the highest possible classification in BS EN 12326 - W1-T1-S1.

As well as roofing, Riverstone is also available as a versatile solution for cladding and landscaping. For these applications, it’s available in two thicknesses: 1cm and 1.2cm in 20 and 30cm widths by random lengths.

The cladding product comes in two stylish finishes - natural split, whereby the product has been expertly hand-split to produce a traditional riven surface, and brushed antique, which results in a smooth, matt look.
